Nope, I’m not talking about coffee–I’m talking about chocolate! I found these David Bradley Chocolatier Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothies during a layover at JFK Airport at Harmony Health and Beauty. From looking at the label, it appeared as if they were gluten-free but I contacted the manufacturer to confirm and they have assured me that they are. (Be aware, though, that their products containing pretzels, their graham crackers and their chocolate chip cookies, are NOT gluten-free.) Their tagline of “Rich.Bold.Addictive” is spot-on as this treat is all three. Enjoy!
Prevention‘s March 2013 issue touts a recipe for Spaghetti with Roasted Red Pepper Sauce and features Ancient Harvest Gluten Free Organic Quinoa Pasta. The pasta is apparently GMO-free and sold in seven different cuts.
Prep time for the recipe is 15 minutes with a total time of 25 minutes. Nutritional information is included. Recipe appears on page 125. So glad to see more gluten-free products spotlighted in magazines these days!
The January/February issue of Natural Health Magazine features a blurb on page 28 discussing how–according to the Mayo Clinic–about 1.8million people have celiac disease. It also mentions–according to a study published in
The American Journal of Gastroenterology–that about 1.6million people are eating gluten-free. If that’s the case, here’s my question: why is a loaf of gluten-free bread (and other products) still so expensive? I’m currently paying between $5.50 and $6 per loaf at my local (chain) grocery store. How about you?
In case you missed it, p. 22 of the December issue of Yoga Journal spotlights four gluten-free flours in their “mix it up” blurb. Bob’s Red Mill, Namaste Foods, Arrowhead Mills and Pamela’s are all mentioned. I am always pleased to see the mention of gluten-free products in the various publications to which I subscribe. For those of you in the CNY area–or those planning to visit–check out page 54 of the November/December issue of
THE GOOD LIFE central new york MAGAZINE. You’ll find a blurb in their Holiday section about Beak & Skiff Farm Distillery’s premium small-batch apple vodka. As you’ll see from the photo, there is a sticker on the bottle that classifies it as “Gluten Free!” I had the pleasure of visiting Beak & Skiff last fall and found it to be quite the local treasure. I would highly recommend a visit. Makes for a nice family outing when the apples are ready for picking. I would also recommend picking up a copy of THE GOOD LIFE; it is an intelligent, beautifully crafted publication that highlights the best of CNY.

In the November/December issue of Natural Health, there is an article titled, “10 Ways to Go Natural” on page 16.
Tip No.7 is about finding a “nicer” rice cereal. Rice Krispies is mentioned for its “slightly healthier and gluten-free version” of the original well-loved cereal. Now, children (and adults alike!) can enjoy Rice Krispies Treats or even a bowl of this brown rice-based cereal. Kudos to both Natural Health for the mention and to Kellogg’s for recognizing the growing gluten-free community.
